The William Doo Auditorium, New College, University of Toronto

A Toronto Pride Community Event

Equity, ACTRA, and non-union performers welcome under our Indie 2.2 CAEA agreement.

We are looking to cast:

Sylvia Rivera: Latinx trans woman, any age. (This play covers decades of activism, so no specific age is necessary). Sylvia is a co-founder of STAR house, and a Trans activist and elder in New York City. More about Sylvia

We are prioritizing representation, and ensuring transgender roles are portrayed by transgender performers. We are currently searching for actors of all experience levels, who self-identify with trans womanhood/trans femininity. No social and/or medical transition is necessary to read for these parts.

About the Project:

The Love Booth and Other Plays is a set of seven short plays that share stories of a variety of queer lives and queer activism in the 1970s and early 1980s.

This is a staged reading to celebrate the 50th anniversary of delisting Homosexuality from Psychiatry Handbooks (the American DSM).  All seven plays are verbatim – built from interviews and essays by the activists involved.

The performance will have actors with scripts in-hand. We’re casting a combination of professionally trained and community actors.

Rehearsals begin June 2. The performance is June 9. Audio recording for podcast one 3 hour time slot June 12 – 24.

Rehearsal schedule is negotiable. If you are available for the performance on June 9, please reach out.

If interested, please email director Jenny Salisbury.
